Who Am I?
My name is Nicole Collings. \ I'm a 17 year old programmer and artist. \ I've spent most of my life using computers, and I've been programming since I was 12. \ I'm experienced in more than a dozen languages, including Java, Javascript, Lua, and PHP. \ Also, I'm pretty good at pixel art. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but all of the art assets in my games are made by me. \ I've enrolled in and gotten over 95% in all of the computer-related courses in my high school, and once I graduate, I plan to continue on to a post-secondary Software Engineering degree.
My dream job is to make video games. \ Not to sound all soppy or anything, but making experiences for people to escape into and enjoy is one of the best things I can imagine doing. \ My favorite game for a number of years was Minecraft, which has totally impacted the way I go about game development. \ I mostly make Sandbox games, because the amount of freedom they provide evokes a feeling in me that's hard to describe. No other type of game can match that for me. I don't have any released games yet, \ but I'm determined to finish and release the two projects I'm working on right now. \ However, I also need money in the meantime.
I first touched an HTML file in 2016, and early 2017 I started doing commercial web development. \ What began with redoing the theater's website has expanded into a business that lets me avoid doing minimum wage retail work! \ I think that's pretty good for a student who had no previous work experience or credentials. \ I strictly adhere to my standards of making every website responsive on all screen sizes, \ and using CSS instead of Javascript when at all possible. \ I use modern design standards, and that paired with my efficient code makes my work stand out among all those sloppily put-together Bootstrap and WordPress sites made by some guy who only cares about the money. \ I take pride in what I do and I've been told that shows.
